Who am I? Where do I come from? How do I define myself? Reform, Redefine, Rekindle aims to explore the question of identity within the western diaspora of contemporary dance. It centers around looking at cultural identity and its place within contemporary dance: its similarities and differences. We explore the effects of the loss of cultural identity by reformation to fit a Eurocentric culture, but also the contrast of celebration in redefining a place for non-western culture within contemporary dance. The work pulls upon personal stories and thoughts from choreographer, Derek Souvannavong, which have been shared and developed through collaboration of the dancers.
